My Sixth Blogiversary

My Sixth Blogiversary
Or: Do you know who I am on the internet?

Another year goes down.

Blogger tells me that this is post number 3772, for an average of about 1.7 posts per day. It also tells me that 22 people are “following” it via Blogger. Technorati, when the monster hasn’t escaped, tells me that 905 blogs have linked to this site, and 160 have done so in the last 180 days. TSM is ranked at about 23,000th out of however many million blogs they track these days. Sitemeter tells me that the blog has received about 1,480,000 total visits, about 386,000 in the last twelve months, or roughly 1,000 a day. Google Analytics tells me more info than I can honestly analyse, but it, too says about 361,000 visits over the last 365 days. It also tells me that about 450 “unique visitors” hit the site at least 26 times a day. I have to assume those are ‘bots, because I don’t think I want to know anyone who checks my site that compulsively. Another 300-350 or so are “one-time charlies” who hit the site and never come back.

That leaves about 200 of you who read this blog directly pretty much daily, and maybe another hundred or so who read it through a feed via those ‘bots that keep checking and checking and checking for new content. That’s a lot more than the “16 regular readers” I initially thought I had! Thanks for finding me and sticking with me. As I’ve said, not bad for a third-tier gunblog, especially one who tends to the long-form technical essay in a time of 5-second soundbites and attention spans shorter than a fruit-fly’s mating frenzy. Thanks especially to the twenty or so of you who comment here almost daily:

And, most especially, Markadelphia, who inspires you to some of your finest work! I write this stuff because I need to, but it is very encouraging to know that I’ve got some very, very bright people out there who are willing to slog through it, discuss it, and add information and insight to it. We may be Albert Jay Nock’s “Remnant,” but it’s good to know you’re there. Thank you. Thanks also to those of you who send me links to blogworthy stuff. And most especially, thanks to all you other bloggers who keep me interested in doing this. There are more and more of you daily, and I have to confess, as Bilbo did, “I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”

Six years down, and I’m not through yet.

Bad news, though, is that I’m not going to be blogging all that much over the next four days. The annual NRA Convention starts tomorrow, and I don’t think I’m going to have a lot of internet access for a few days. Since it’s just up the road a piece for me, I’m staying with my brother and his wife, and I don’t think I’ll be able to get on their service, so don’t expect much from me for a while. Besides, that last Überpost took a lot out of me!
