He isn’t the only one raising this general issue. I’m sure Porretto has touched on it – in his own unique way. The U.S. has morphed into tribalism; no more the melting pot which was supposed to cohere as a Nation bound by a homogenity of principle – that of equality and rights set forth by the founders. We have a country, as a geopolitical entity, but not a Nation.
In part, this is due to a failure of education. Of course, the progressives don’t view it as a failure at all. Indoctrination accomplished! But a sound grounding in the bedrock philosophy rooted in Lockean principles? Supplanted by Marx.
The pushback against the Progressive agenda is there, and is being seeded amongst a small minority of our country’s youth, but I fear it’s too late. Sure, we can point to infighting on the Left as a sign they’re becoming weak and vulnerable, but the Right suffers from the same issues.
As others have pointed out, when your opponent is driven by ideology, arguing facts and principles matters not. There’s no longer any shared language or philosophy against which we can have discussions. We old folks might be lucky to die before things get really bad, but our decendants are going to have it a lot worse.
This is exactly what Billy Beck has been protesting for as long as I’ve been aware of him. Of course he thinks Anarchism should work, but he’s bang on about no shared philosophy.
