“Congress Shall Make No Law….”

The First Amendment to the Constitution begins with what George F. Will once called “the most beautiful five words in the English language”: “Congress shall make no law.”

No law respecting an establishment of religion.

No law prohibiting the free exercise of religion.

No law abridging the freedom of speech, or the press.

No law abridging the right of the people to assemble peaceably to petition for redress of grievances.

NO LAW.

But the government has found a way around that. They don’t need a law. They just need a new executive branch bureau with the power to make and enforce regulations that Congress never sees. The Biden administration has decided that George Orwell’s 1984 isn’t a cautionary tale, but an instruction manual and has created its own Ministry of Truth, or as Orwell abbreviated it, “Minitrue” – the “Disinformation Governance Board,” – and headed it with a woman well-schooled in disinformation, because she has extensive practice at it.

Do you understand why the Left so desperately needs a majority on the Supreme Court?

The 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence comes in 2026. I wonder if we’ll make it there intact?

  1. Harry Browne once discussed the questions he’d ask a supreme court nominee. He had one for each of the first 10 amendments. The question for the first one went something like: “The first amendment to the constitution begins with ‘Congress shall pass no law’. What number does ‘no’ mean?” He said he’d be unable to vote to confirm any nominee that didn’t understand that “no law” meant “zero laws”.

  2. The criminals in power DO NOT CARE what the Constitution says. They intend to rule and they will allow NOTHING to interfere with that goal. Want to stop them?
Then KILL THEM. Because NOTHING ELSE will prevent them from doing what they intend to do.

  3. Far as I know even Supreme Court Judges must abide by the “Good Behavior” rule. If they do not exhibit and act with proper intent to what the Constitution says, they are not exhibiting “good behavior” and can be removed.
We not are living in an era where only one rule will prevail above all others – Rule 308
The overlords keep insisting upon it. The will have to live by its results.

    1. I once briefly had access to a dictionary published in 1790. The Constitution says that “high crimes and misdemeanors” are cause for removal from federal office. In that dictionary, Misdemeanor wasn’t the petty crime we think of today. It was behaving in a manner that society found repugnant.

      1. If you break down the word “misdemeanor” into its literal parts, “demeanor” refers to one’s “behavior towards others; outward manner” (Merriam-Webster dictionary), and “mis” as a prefix means “bad”, “unfavorable”, or “wrong” (same source).

Thus, “misdemeanor” means “bad behavior towards others; unfavorable outward manner”.

Literally speaking, it’s not a “crime” as we understand it; it’s a bad attitude and a pattern of misbehavior, but that bad attitude and pattern of misbehavior would and should demonstrate that someone is unfit to represent others in Congress.

  4. “No law respecting an establishment of religion.”

Due to lack of knowledge of older English I’m sure most people read this as “Congress shall make no law that shows respect to religion” rather than “Congress shall make no law about establishing a religion.”
