One of the concepts he says — a few times — is one that we’ve been saying for some time: removing someone’s ability to speak their mind does not remove the ideas from their heads or hearts, and we as a society need to be able to say the unpopular things in order to really address them properly.
Or put another way, the solution to “hate speech” is not censorship, but more speech.
Racist and bigoted false ideas, if said in public, get challenged and disproven. But they must be said in order to be challenged.
OTOH, if saying those ideas is banned, then more often than not true ideas and observations regarding race are also banned.
Censoring truth is never good for society, even when done with good intentions. That goes double for uncomfortable truths.
Interesting vid. Thanks for sharing.
